The research aimed to develop a food-grade plastic material. Gabi (taro) contains starch that can be used in making an edible plastic. The starch collected from grated taro was used as source of polymer. Taro starch was mixed with plasticizers. Regular vinegar and glycerin were used as plasticizers. The amount of ingredients in making a smooth, glossy and transparent edible plastic is 50% vinegar, 25% glycerin and 25% Starch. Since all the ingredients used were food-safe, the bioplastic is therefore food-grade. It is recommended that the study be repeated and that the product be tested under standardized measures to thoroughly assess the qualities.

Keywords: Taro, food-grade plastic, biodegradable plastic
