This action research presented a strategy to increase the level of scientific literacy of Grade 10 learners, and how to address irresponsible dissemination of false information online. The proposed solution is to bring back the practice of requiring scientific readings from the students. The respondents were select grade ten students of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino High School (School Year 2017-2018). The sources of articles were online pages, printed magazines, journals and newspapers. The students read an article every week, summarised it, reacted or reflected on it, and shared it among the class. The output was evaluated using two-scale rating system for five criteria: concise and comprehensive summary, reaction or reflection that shows students’ understanding of the chosen article, basics of technical writing such as grammar and spelling, and overall appearance of the paper. The score was recorded as regular written output. Initial results showed that students had difficulty identifying a science-related news or find a reliable source of information by their own. They also had hard time in technical and formal writing. However, succeeding months showed improvement on their papers. Sources of information were verified, and summary and reaction were written comparatively plausibly. This research showed that the practice of scientific news sharing in class plays a role in the control of information propagation, whether true or false. It is recommended to return this to practice to guide students in choosing information. This strategy can also be used for review of related literature for science investigatory projects.
